Barryton Public Library

Library Showcase:

Barryton Public Library is a class I library run by a library staff of 3 who are committed to serving the needs of their patrons. They have made it a library priority to provide individualized service and focus on building relationships with patrons.

Their building is located in the heart of the small town of Barryton. They are in close proximaty to the other downtown attractions, the bank and post office. In 2001, the library upgraded by purchasing “slightly used” shelving and furniture from a downstate library. According to Director, Ben Huffman, the new furnishings have brightened up the library and made a big difference in the atmosphere of the building.

They are currently participating in a book discussion group that involves 10 other libraries. All of the libraries are reading the same book, Enslaved by Ducks, by Bob Tarte. The author will be speaking at Luther Area Public Library on June 3 rd at 7 p.m. and at Big Rapids Middle School on June 10 th at 7 p.m. All are welcome to attend. Door prizes will be awarded. The events are made possible by a grant from the Humanities council. This is the second year that Barryton Public Library has participated in the book discussion group.

We salute Barryton Public Library for all they have done for their community and are proud to have them as a member of the Mid-Michigan Library League.
