Beulah Public Library
Library Showcase:
Located in just 682 square feet of a former fire house, the Beulah Public Library is on fire with enthusiasm. During her interview, the Director, Anne Damm, brought to light many of the library’s great attributes:
- Their Friends of the Library group has over 100 members.
- They recently passed a millage in the village to support the growth of the library.
- The fourth Thursday of each month, they host a book discussion group which is very popular with patrons and well attended.
- They have just acquired a foreign film collection which they are proud of.
- They have just finished a lecture series on Michigan Native Americans as part of their Authentic Voices programming.
- Their story time is “blue”, but not sad. Each week their story hour takes place on a blue blanket in the park which is located on Crystal Lake. Hence their story time is called “blue blanket” story hour. The blanket was crocheted by a patron and each week volunteers read stories for the story hour.
- Next month, the Library will begin their Summer Reading Program in collaboration with other Benzie County libraries. Registered children who complete the program with be awarded a coupon book redeemable for items from local businesses.
- They have designed a new building and hope to break ground in the next 1-2 years. The new building will have a little more than four times their current footage, 3,000 square feet. Once built, the new library will be next to the village council building and will be visible from the main street. The fund-raiser has just begun, and already significant pledges have been made.
