Chase Public Library Library Showcase: The library Director of Chase Public Library, Roxanne Ware, has a lot of patience. After five years of remodeling, the library recently completed renovations to the library. In May, they held an Open House to show the public their expansion from using one room of an old school house to using the entire building (three rooms.) The remodeling project was funded by grants from the Wege Foundation of Grand Rapids. The Wege Foundation typically funds grants for museums and ecosystem clean-ups, but due to connections, they funded the library’s remodeling. Because of the remodeling, Chase Public Library has not sponsored a summer reading program in 5 years. This year they are starting the program up again. To coincide with the reading program their “Meet your Neighbors” display case currently features items from Japan. They rotate items in their display case every six week. The showcase features a collection from residents in the Chase area. Along with the showcased collection, there is a short bio on the individual who owns the items. Examples of items they have showcased are; woodworking and scrap booking collections. The Chase library is not located on the main street and can be easily overlooked by the public. To increase visibility, Roxanne has been doing lots of publicity for the library. She has been sending out newsletters, 9 &10 News did a story on the library, and they have been advertising in a local grocer ad. Now that their renovations are done, the library has the opportunity to focus on some of their other projects. One of which is that they are in the initial stages of starting a Historical Society. Another is that they have started a Reading Garden where patrons can enjoy a good story and be surrounded by a beautiful garden. The library is family orientated and hopes to bring in new patrons due to their recent renovations. We salute Chase Public Library for all they have done for their community and are proud to have them as a member of the Mid-Michigan Library League.
