Elk Rapids District Library

Library Showcase:

The best feature and what makes the Elk Rapids District Library unique is their location which is in a former home built in 1865 and located by the Elk Rapids marina. When the house was built, it was actually on an island, between Lake Michigan and the Elk River and it was known as the Island House. Since then, a road was built to the library, so the library is no longer actually on an island, but the named has stuck

The library has been in the “Island House” since 1949, and over the years much renovation had been done. They just completed the remodeling of a storage room into a larger, more comfortable meeting room than what they had before. Over the years, their lovely building has retained it’s original character and charm.

The library passed a millage a few years ago, and therefore they are able to purchase a good selection of new books and audio books, which they are proud of.

We salute Elk Rapids District Library for all they have done for their community and are proud to have them as a member of the Mid-Michigan Library League.
