WHO WE ARE
The Mid-Michigan Library League (MMLL) is a library cooperative or system serving all types of libraries in 17 counties in northwestern Michigan that is headquarted in Cadillac, MI. The League was established as it currently exists in 1979. However, prior to that year, the League existed in a slightly different form. In fact, the League was first established as a federal project to encourage resource sharing in the early 1960's. The earliest Bylaws for the League were written in 1966.

MEMBERS
The League currently has 47 public libraries which are members.

LOCATION
The MMLL headquarters are located in the downtown district of Cadillac, Michigan. The office is located above Hermann's European Cafe' and Butcher Shop at 210 1/2 N. Mitchell, Cadillac, 49601.

ORGANIZATION
The League is organized under PA 89 of 1977 (Michigan State Aid to Public Libraries Act). The membership requirements are spelled out in that law but membership is limited to public libraries. League policy and the annual budget is determined by a nine (9) member library board which is representative of the  area. The 17 counties rotate the 4-year terms among the counties and the library boards of the member libraries in each county appoint their representative.

FUNDING
Funding comes from the state of Michigan in the form of state aid which is given on a per capita basis. An additional amount is received to compensate for low population density in rural areas of the state such as that served by Mid-Michigan. Local public libraries receive an equivalent per capita distribution, which is to be used to purchase cooperative services.  Some services are provided by the League on a cost recovery basis. These cost recovery services are available to all types of libraries.
