We interrupt your reading of this Weekly Update to bring you breaking news. Be on the look out for a MMLL member library that goes by the name of Mancelona Township Library; they need your help.

The library is located in the northern Michigan town of Mancelona. The library is housed in the upper level a Carnegie Library building. The lower level houses the Township offices, but the township offices will be vacating the building in the Spring 2006, which gives the library the possibility of expanding into the lower level. The problem, there is only one staff at the library, Linda Johnson. If the library expands, they are going to need additional staff. Currently, their revenue comes solely from penal fines. A millage is necessary in order to have the necessary funds to expand.

This suspect (library) enjoys and loves serving their small town. The last confirmed services of the library were an automated library collection (new within the last three years), three public access computers, two children’s computers, current fiction material, and story hours.

The information that we have available to us states that the library may have a tough time convincing the residents of Mancelona that a millage is necessary. Ways to help the library are; support Linda by sending helpful suggestions about mileage campaigns, send suggestions on how your library promotes itself to your community, and by stopping by the library to say “hi” while in Mancelona. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated. We now return you to the regularly scheduled reading of the Weekly Update.
